Virtual meetings are the new normal for sure, any day of the week you could click onto an education session, an annual general meeting or make plans for your farm operation. The Alberta Seed Guide you are holding is about as close as we are going to get for a while yet. So, our editorial team has put together some great articles and this issue contains the results of the regional variety trials held throughout the province in 2021. Planning will be the name of the game this winter. With global, national, and regional supply issues at the forefront, a little planning will go a long way. Order your pedigreed seed inputs early as there are drought-limited supplies in some areas. Contact your local seed grower, theyll do their best to ensure you have the varieties you want lined up for #plant22.Make sure youre getting quality seed; the blue tag verifies you are buying certified seed. Even if you buy your seed in bulk, your seed retailer can provide proof of certification, or check to see if your retailer is listed here in the Alberta Seed Guide. A certified seed supply is genetically pure (with the traits the plant breeder intended), free of weed seeds and other impurities and has been tested to verify it has a high @abseedgrower germination percentage. Seed growers have already grown the newer varieties for several generations to increase the certified seed available.
